South African Airways

South African Airways (SAA) is South Africa’s flag carrier and largest domestic and international airline with hubs in Johannesburg and Cape Town. It was founded in 1934 when the South African government bought Union Airways and renamed it South African Airways.

SAA is one of the leading carriers in Africa flying to 5 domestic destinations and 32 international destinations in 26 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America and Australia.

SAA operate a fleet of 55 aircraft with a further 10 Airbus A330 on order. When it comes to the SAA fleet, customers can be assured of comfort, reliability, modern interiors, technologically advanced, trend-setting features and most of all, high safety standards applied in maintaining aircraft. Its fleet has an average age of 8 years and in October 2006, all aircraft, with the exception of the smaller A319 and B737-800 range, were retrofitted with SAA’s award-winning lie-flat seat.

In April 2006 SAA became a member of Star Alliance, the world's largest and most recognised global airline network allowing SAA to offer passengers a service beyond its own direct operations as well as numerous other benefits to customers.
